StoryUP creates data-driven VR escapes for areas of acute stress. Using BCI (brain computer interface), we also enable the user to control some experiences with their own brainwaves. We believe immersive media has value not just for entertainment but to help people shift their emotions into quieter states. In one study from Yume, researchers found VR 27% more emotionally engaging than regular flat video.
StoryUP is a tribe of storytellers, psychologists, developers, filmmakers, audio engineers and technologists. We began in 2015, trying to find a solution for terminally-ill WWII Veterans who were not able to physically travel to see their memorials in Washington, DC. Sarah Hill started to study whether VR could be compounded to shift brainwave patterns and whether brainwaves could manipulate assets within a VR environment. Together Dr. Tarrant and Hill hold a provisional patent on VR therapy. StoryUP’s stories encompass a variety of forms from meditations to features using technologies including EEG, HRV, BCI, and neurofeedback.

Sarah is a 20 year veteran of the interactive media industry. She got into virtual reality trying to find a solution for a group of terminally-ill Veterans who weren't able to physically travel. She is a national Edward R. Murrow, Sigma Delta Chi, and 12-time mid-America Emmy award-winning storyteller with VR work that spans 5 continents. Sarah started using augmented reality in 2011 to interact with TV viewers behind the scenes of a newscast.
Dr. Jeff Tarrant's clinical work at the Neuromeditation Institute has focused on technology-based interventions including Quantitative EEG, neurofeedback, biofeedback, low power repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), and audio visual entrainment (AVE). Ricky Rockley is 3D Artist who builds virtual worlds controlled by the user's biometrics. Ricky has a BA of Game Art and Design from the Art Institutes International in Kansas City. Ask him about his time working in subfreezing temperatures on an oil rig.
